…the secret of ‘value’ is ‘valyou’

I maintain the view which I first raised in Volume 1: that extraordinary relationships and customer service will be the holy-grail at the heart of the successful super lawyer, and extraordinary rainmaker lawyer, for that matter.

It’s all about GIVING, remember? And being extraordinarily helpful, remember?

Why?

Because I stand firmly by the courage of my conviction, from experience: that building an enduring VALUE relationship with the client, utilising the ‘fluffy soft-skills stuff’ (some of which I have shared with you in the naked lawyer) combined with a total client-centric focus, is where the real VALUE will be for the lawyer, law firm and consumer of today and the future.

That is, the trick (I find) is to stand in the clients’, prospects’ and lobsters’ shoes, empathise, and FEEL their fear, their pain, their pockets (how short or deep) and to try and understand what VALUE means to THEM. You have to take the focus totally off yourself and place it entirely on the receiver.

As an example of what VALUE can mean to a customer/client I’d like to share with you a quick story…

… So, why do I reckon extraordinary customer service in the legal profession, and we lawyers providing the very same, is going to matter so much?

Stuart Brown, a specialist in customer experience has this to say:
